A series exploring the harmonious progression of colour using fabric sourced in Cambodian markets

How colours react together is a strong theme in my work.

Individual mounts emphasise the ‘frame within a frame’ and allow each element to be appreciated both separately and as part of the whole.

Every piece of fabric was a slightly different size, requiring individual frames to be made for each

The colour combinations were so vibrant, I felt that each one merited its own frame. Every piece was slightly different in size, making the mounting process even longer than I expected.

After this followed a period of experimentation to find a ballance of overall colour progression, with lightest shades at top left, to darkest at bottom right.

I wanted to  create a work that would draw attention to how great these objects are and be appreciated differently.

In the market places of Phnom Penh, Cambodia I became absorbed with the colourful fabrics and scarves, and a number of artworks began to form in my head.

Sold as cushion covers, I found myself flipping through the piles as If would a colour reference chart.
