I wanted to avoid any disruption to the surface, angle and

shadow. Achieving this was a painstaking process, with every join filled and hours of fine sanding between multiple sprayed coats of paint.

I used an environmentally friendly semi gloss, water based enamel that gives an incredible finish and durability.

The doors have a precise 5mm gap around them to frame and highlight the colour. The handles I machined from solid billets of stainless steel.

The whole unit is made from 25mm MDF. The heft of the material provides a structural integrity and solidity that will last a

lifetime.

My partner Juliet was doing a Ph.D and about to move in with me when I built this. I wanted to make something for her working space that was beautiful and useful; a functional piece of art.

A bespoke piece, the unit was created to enhance the space it is in
The seamless, glass-like finish was achieved through hours of patient sanding and painting

I love this piece! Particularly now it's in use. The chaos of the books and papers seem to highlight the fine detail, colour and form.

The irregular size and shelf spacing introduces an element of randomness that helps break up the structural layout.
